Siolim House is a 350 year old Palacio, now
beautifully restored as a private seven room heritage boutique hotel in
Goa. It is one of the best examples of the late 16th century 'casa do
sobrado' style of Goa-Portuguese architecture in North Goa, and once was
the home to the governor to Macau, and a family of administrators that
included a governor to Macau and one to Mozambique.

We are classified a 'Heritage Boutiqe Hotel' by the
Dept of Tourism. We are situated in the quiet coastal village of Siolim,
Goa which is perfectly placed for the lovely beaches just to the north
of Morjim Ashwem and the action of the Candolim - Calangute - Baga -
Anjuna stretch to the South. Situated close by is 'Little Siolim', a
three room restored annexe villa to our boutique hotel in Goa that you
can also rent as a villa. |
| Call us a boutique hotel, but we are more a home and
unlike a hotel in every other way. We aim to expose guests to what Goa
really is all about – an aromatic distillation of Indian and old
European Portuguese cultures, through our family and home oriented
approach to hospitality. Goa is not experienced in manicured lawns of a
luxury hotel but rather from the close quarters of slow paced village
and country life. It is about the deep unbroken traditions, amazing Goa
heritage homes, delicious local cuisine based on a mix of indian spices
and European influences. Finally it is about the friendliest people, and
an open, tolerant and happy society. If you are looking for this, you
may find it in and our heritage boutique hotel in Goa. |

In 2001, Siolim House was a finalist for the UNESCO
Heritage Prize, which considered its history and the work we did to
restore this building. In 2009 we completed a second renovation to bring
back more detail and more features than we character as a heritage
Palacio, one of the rare and most beautiful examples still standing in
North Goa. Our home staff are all very eager to show you their best and
to offer our hospitality. As a unique Heritage boutique hotel in Goa, we
operate with a sensitive philosophy to our village, its culture and our
surroundings. We are not over-ambitious about ratings or anything but we
will try our best. One reviewer described us as 'lacking artificiality'.
Others describe us as 'understated' and 'elegant'. |
| Siolim House is situated in North Goa, in the
district of Bardez. Although we are not on the main strip of Baga
Calagute we are in fact very conveniently situated to visit the less
visited idyllic beaches of Morjim, Ashwem, Arambol and Keri to the North
of us and the action and beaches of the south towards Anjuna, Baga, and
Calangute. The house is at the entrance of the village of Siolim that is
a very unspoiled and local village. While this means that you will get a
feel of living in real and not maicured surroundings, don't expect
hotels and restaurants around us. These are mostly situated on the
tourist strips. |

350 years of history. At one time the house belonged
to a governor of Macau from an aristocratic family, and still has the
porcelain china grills that the senhor brought from the east. Later on
other members of the family were administrators in Portuguese
Mozambique, which is where its other name 'Mosmimcar', 'The Mozambican',
comes from. The house was bought by its present owners in 1996 and the
first renovation completed in 1999. |
| At the time the house was in very poor condition, and
we began restoration with a view to restore to a home. After a sensitive
restoration over three years, without sparing any detail, from its lime
plaster to its patterned floor tiles, the house was lovingly brought
back. We realised that in order to the house to continue for the next
300 years it would have to be lived in and so decided to put her to use
first as a villa for rent during the time we were not there and then due
to the size as very few groups were able to rent it, it grew into a
'non-hotel' boutique hotel. |

As the restoration was done to retain its structure
as private home, we were therefore very generous in our use of space. In
a building that had twenty four rooms there are today only seven suites
and seven bathrooms. No necessity was felt to cram rooms in, and so we
have spacious public areas and rooms, very unlike a Goa hotel! We
somehow scraped the money together and used my salary to finance the
work. The house is still very much that today - just a house with a
website, which never intended to be or will become a hotel with all that
hotels stand for. |
| Siolim House has seven suites, including one with 2
rooms, all with ensuite facilities. Little Siolim is our annexe house
and has three more rooms in a private setting. It is a 10 minute walk
from Siolim House. The rooms are build around a courtyard. The service
is very homely and all meals are served for guests. The hotel is very
much run like a home and therefore our service is very personalized. |
